What Amazon Affiliate Program Means and How it Works
The Amazon Affiliate program, or Amazon Associates, is an affiliate marketing program. It’s free for website owners and bloggers to become Amazon Associates. Amazon affiliates advertise products from Amazon.com on their sites and social media platforms by creating links. When customers click the links and buy products from Amazon, they earn referral fees.
But sometimes shoppers may only come to view the items on affiliate’s blogs or social media platform and will not buy immediately. Well, there is still hope that the shopper may likely still purchase those items in as much he/she has added those item(s) on the Amazon shopping cart and the earning/credit will also come to the affiliate if the purchase was made within 24hours.
There is a Standard 24-hours and the 90-Days Cookies, and they work differently. See explaination below.
The Amazon Affiliate Cookie – How it Works
The standard Amazon affiliate link gives you 24 hours for a customer to make a purchase, in order for you to earn your due commission.
This means that if a customer clicks your link and orders ANYTHING (almost anything), within a 24 hour window, you’ll earn a commission on those items. It’s a universal cookie, meaning that even if the customer clicks through your link to view a baby stroller, but ends up buying a new kitchen set, some dumbbells, and a ribbon for their dog, you’ll still get paid for all of those items.
Sometimes though, a customer doesn’t immediately order a product, especially if it’s a high-ticket item. To make up for this, Amazon will extend your cookie by another 89 days if the customer adds a product to their cart. In other words, if they add it to the cart and then leave Amazon, you’ve got 89 more days to hope they come back and finish checking out.
