Understand that Opera Mini and Opera GX Browsers are the same thing when it comes to settings and the ways to Install Add-ons (Extensions) on them. The same process and the same requirements.
I personally love using Opera Mini browser because its one of the fastest and lite browser on the web. It doesn’t hang.
The same applies with the Opera GX browser. But what entice me the most is the structural design of the browser. Of course, it is a gaming browser – listing and featuring games. Also the sound it gives while typing my keyboard. I have always known that anything “Gaming” always has a special design and features; just like the gaming phones and gaming computers.
You may want to use these browsers like others (Google Chrome, Mozilla, Yandex browser, etc.). That is, installing add-ons (also known as extensions) to add extra features to the browsers and computer as well.
Why Opera Mini and Opera GX browser uses Chrome Extensions
Have you had of “Chromium (web browser)”?
Chromium is an open-source software project from Google, which the source code can be compiled into a web browser.
Google uses the code to make its Chrome browser, which has more features than Chromium. Many other browsers are also based on Chromium code, most popular browsers like; Microsoft Edge and Opera.
This is why Opera Mini uses the Chrome Extension WebStore. Not only Opera mini though, likewise Yandex browser, and more.
How to Install Add-ons (Extensions)
To start, you’ve to first install an extension called “install Chrome Extensions”.
You don’t have to find it on Chrome extension webstore because any attempt you make to install any extension for the first time the notification will pop-up for you.
For example, I recently installed my Opera GX browser and Opera Mini browser , and I want to install Grammarly extension, first a notification comes up that I have to install the “Install Chrome Extensions” to enable me start installing all Chrome extenstions on these browsers. See image below.
And if you click on “permission” a pup-up like the image below will display to also directly install the Chrome extension.
Now, you will get a notification on the right top of the page that “Install Chrome Extension” has been installed in your browser.
And you can start installing any extension from Chrome WebStore – https://chrome.google.com/webstore/
Installing Chrome Extensions on Opera Mini and Opera GX Browser
- With your Opera or Opera GX browser, go to https://chrome.google.com/webstore/
- At the left side of the page is a search box where you type in the name of the extension you want to install or add to your browser.
- Click on the extension you want to add to open its page.
- Then click on “Add to Chrome”, then follow and accept other prompts to complete the process.
But in most cases, some sites provide clickable links that redirect to the Extension Webstore.
Also you can use search for the extension on Google search engine to redirect you to the Extension WebStore to complete the installation.
